Activism, the good and bad.
Activism is great when it comes to having your lived experience and issues heard to make change for the better in communities. It's all about collectively having your voices heard in strength on many issues as well as supporting other issues and topics in your community because, after all, it's all about the numbers when you support each other to make change for the better for everyone who is suffering in many ways on the same issues. We say it's good to be involved in grassroots activism, but be careful who you do it with because there are a few bad apples who can ruin it for everyone.
Where things can start to go bad is when the wrong people make it about the money, corruption, scandals, embezzlement, and self-interest to be popular and operate with a poker face in the public forum.
We got involved in activism and believed in having everyone's voice heard on different topics. But we warn you to be careful and look out for the few bad actors out there. Sometimes it can feel like you are back in school and you are trying to fit into the cool kids club, example the football team or chess club. Again activism is amazing and so are many people, but they can either have blinders on or play into the silencing game. We got involved in an organization that we at first believed in, and we were told by the paid organizers it was a not-for-profit organization that is non-partisan and is membership-driven, meaning each low-income member pays $15 a month or $30 a month for couples to support the organization, and every member is supposed to have an equal say and vote within the organization. We have seen many people who cant afford a monthly membership who ask for help and support for issues they are having but they are ignored by the paid organizers and they do not receive the help and support with many walking away very upset. The paid organizers do not answer the phones many times when members call to mention issues they are going through. Some members who pay a monthly membership even ask for help at times, and the paid organizers will say they have too many events happening at the time to help. Who is in charge, the membership who have a voting right or the paid organizer?. Members are told if they pay a monthly membership through the bank that each paying member has a vote, and the members are who is supposed to have a say, but paid organizers are pushing for campaigns to be a priority that they receive government funding for.
After a long time being a part of the organization, you are used by the paid organizers for public speaking and to bring in the money any way you can for the organization. You are told by the paid organizers that you need to mention ACORN Canada or the local chapter names multiple times in each public speech you do and be proud doing it. Paid organizers attend all monthly chapter meetings and events, looking over everything members do and say, and if the paid organizer is not happy with the conversation among membership or how a vote is going to turn out, the paid organizer will whisper in the leader's ear and tell them to change the direction of the conversation before the vote happens.. Paid organizers will write or edit speeches for every member when they speak at any public events, and you are able to use some of your own words, but then the paid organizers will heavily edit, adding the name ACORN multiple times into the speeches and also the words "speaking on the issues at hand in the speech." Every ACORN chapter in each city will have multiple local chapters, with each chapter having an election with only paid members voting for people to be the chapter leaders, chair, co-chair, secretary, treasurer, At every monthly meeting, the paid organizers write out the agenda along with details of what to say for the leaders of the chapter to read out at every monthly meeting. Paid organizers will whisper in your ear and tell you what to say and what not to say if it goes off the topic that the paid organizers want you to speak about. The paid organizers who are the only one's who write the press releases and send them out to the press. The paid organizers choose to put the names of the members and or leaders in the press release for the news media to speak with, but the paid organizers will manipulate and say some of the members of ACORN want to do everything and not let others have any part, this is manipulation from the paid organizers because they pick and choose people by putting a quote from a leader in the press release and then the media wants to speak with that person, and the paid organizers will use those who are well liked within the community that gives big attention to the ACORN name and draws lots of money into the organization. Members are pushed to do things in the public by the paid organizers from ACORN even if the members are uncomfortable to do it. If members want to run a campaign, it is directed by the paid organizer at the meetings if the members can do it or not based on if it works with the funding they get because ACORN paid organizers receive money from the politicians and governments, grants up to 7 grants per campaign topic.
ACORN Canada is a not-for-profit and is a charity called ACORN Institute Canada. ACORN Canada paid organizers fail to tell the paid members many things, including the charity side and all the money that they receive through the charity is given back to the not-for-profit side of ACORN Canada, as well how much money they receive. ACORN will have some grants sent through the charity and give them back to the not-for-profit side and has been doing this since 2005. Here is a link where anyone can request to see all the information and money from 2005 up to the latest date and year of the money.
You are told by the paid organizers when you speak in public and in front of news media to make sure you are wearing your ACORN T-shirt and to make sure it is showing for advertisement when doing public speaking or press conferences and speaking to the news media, and that means even in the wintertime, even if it's -20 out, because all the paid organizers care about is the advertisement of the ACORN name. You are forced by the paid organizers as a leader behind the scenes to do different things, like handing in brown envelopes to places like the Atkinson Foundation that you do not get to read when it comes to applying for grants. The paid organizers will get you to lie when it comes to donations, grants, subsidies, and more. You are asked as an ACORN leader to speak at events or meetings for unions and more to ask for donations from each union member or donations of some kind. You are told they like you, and that is why the paid organizer is having you speak in public asking for money, and they will push you to always do this along with public speaking and events. Paid organizers will tell us members behind closed doors that ACORN is non-partisan and how we depend on membership money to operate the organization so nobody can tell us what to do as an organization or have any control over the organization or shut us down. The paid organizers have admitted to a very few leaders that there are many conflicts of interest with people who donate or give money to ACORN Canada, but we are told by the paid organizers not to worry about these issues because nobody has access to the database for ACORN and nobody will find out because legally only the paid organizers can access this database.
After a period of time, we started to notice strange things within ACORN Canada and how things were being done behind closed doors and the money, behavior, and so much more from the paid organizers that work in local offices. We were told to raise money in many ways, asking for gift cards from stores and donating them to ACORN, as well as raising money for the local fundraisers, etc., and asking people in the community to sign up as members, paying $15 each a month or $30 a month for a couple through the bank account each month. If we struggled to pay the membership monthly, the paid organizer would tell us to ask public figures in the community to donate to help pay your membership. Paid organizers would tell you that you can't stay as a member of ACORN if you do not pay your monthly dues and that you can't be a leader of the chapter either if your membership dues are not up to date. This is something the paid organizers should be doing, like fundraising, etc. So out of fear of staying a part of ACORN Canada, you go out and desperately ask for donations to cover your monthly membership fees out of fear of not having a voice or being a part of the organization and having a vote.
You start watching how other not-for-profit organizations operate in the public, at their own meetings, and more, and you start to see that ACORN does not operate the same way as all other not-for-profits with rules and being more public about your financial reports and how members are not allowed to see the financial reports even if they ask to see them at local chapters. Each city that ACORN is in has multiple chapters, and each chapter has leaders who are elected by the members: chair, co-chair, treasurer, and secretary. There are no real roles under each title because boards are not functional, they are ceremonial, and the treasurers are not allowed to see the financial reports. Some have tried to ask the paid organizer to see the financial reports and are told no by the paid organizer. Instead, the paid organizer will hold a leader meeting, and they write on a board in front of the leaders fake numbers of financials, not showing all money coming in, like government funding, donations, etc. Evrything is a front and the chapters really a front for the organization and has no real meaning to them. The organization is operated as a cult.
Paid organizers from ACORN Canada behind the scenes will treat members really badly with manipulation and more. You are treated like a slave and lied to and so much more by the paid organizers in this organization. They scream and swear at you in personal conversations, telling you that you would be a nobody if it was not for ACORN Canada. The paid organizers will even tell you that your spouse cannot be a part of meetings or events and to find a member in the organization to babysit your spouse leaving your spouse sitting outside of meetings or events, including spreading false rumors among the membership about you. The paid organizers will scream at you, swear, and treat you badly in personal conversations behind closed doors telling you if it was not for ACORN you would be a nobody, putting you down, and in public events they manipulate you to make you look like a bad person in front of allies and others if you don't do everything they tell you to do. The behavior of the paid organizers is very toxic, and the paid organizers will do anything to silence you within the organization and across the entire community you live in, so nobody will listen to you about the issues and concerns you have about ACORN, creating serious lies about you that will turn the membership and all of the public against you. ACORN Canada has even spoken ill of the members and leaders on the ACORN Radio that they have now deleted, but we recorded the webpage and broadcast for evidence, including the conversations of toxic treatment from paid organizers from ACORN Canada taking photos in public of those same members and ex-members with cell phones to spread false rumors of. ACORN Canada even sends millions of dollars uncounted for in financial reports to other countries ACORN is in to hide money because some countries do not require organizations to file financial reports.
For example, the paid organizers removed this recording from the website when they became aware members and others had heard the radio show with them speaking toxic of leaders and members. Again, Everything is recorded and screen captured, and no matter how much they try and hide and remove things, itโs a little late for that. We have lots of evidence of wrongdoing thatโs not all posted here, like meetings in person, Zoom, and more. The paid organizers are the ones who do many things wrong in organizing, and they canโt take responsibility for their actions and wrongdoing when organizing, so they put it onto the members, saying itโs their fault. The paid organizers will talk bad things to the ACORN membership about unions, politicians, and organizations, saying you do not need to support them and that they do not know how to organize. Once the paid organizers of ACORN have issues with any members over questions of wrongdoing with the organization they will tell the ACORN membership and members of the community behind closed doors to stay away from them and do not speak to them with the toxic enviroment spreading all over the place. Itโs why the some members who see the wrong doing try and change this by asking paid organizers questions about wrong doing with financials, money and why the cover up on the real total amount of money coming in and the money sent to other countries bank accounts where ACORN, how they treat the membership and accountability.

You would ask, "How do the paid organizers do this?" Well, the paid organizers hold individual meetings with members behind the scenes. If a paid organizer is not happy with a member or members. The paid organizer will hold meetings with other members at their home and over the phone and turn the membership slowly against you, and in the meantime everything you do is done by the paid organizers telling you what to do, what to say, how to do it etc. But the paid organizers will start to manipulate the members, asking them to run in the next chapter election against you and speaking badly about you to other members, trying to get everyone to have a bad opinion of you within the membership, just because you started asking the paid organizers questions about the organization and why things are not being done right. Or if you stand up for your spouse, saying they should not be treated like an animal. You speak with other fellow members, and you hear the same issues from other members about how the paid organizers have changed their attitude towards some others behind the scenes, laughing at members children with disabilities for saying how they are applying for jobs in the community. Members need to remember they have more power than they realize; they can vote in meetings to remove the paid organizers from conversations by vote at the meetings.
We started looking at the website acorncanada.org to see if there were any financial reports because the treasurers from local chapters had asked to see the financial reports, and we were told NO by the paid organizers. Then the top paid organizer drove the volunteer president to the local office to write on a paper only some of the figures regarding the money and the paid organizers' wages and total how much they earn a year, but they were missing out on donation amounts and so much more. We could not find the financial reports at all anymore at that time, but after some deep thinking and searching, we found the financial reports hidden on the organization's website that is not made public for everyone to see, even the membership of ACORN Canada. We will post the ones we found below that are not open to the members and the public, we had to do some deep searching.

Here is Ottawa ACORN TWITTER asking below-poverty members from ACORN who already give $15 to $30 a month plus the costs of shirts, hats, and more. Here they are being asked to donate their $200 cheque from Doug Ford. ACORN paid organizers will try and claim they are trying to keep dollars in the membership pockets; itโs more like in the paid organizers pockets. Everything is about money with the paid organizers while the scandals continue.

Members of ACORN Canada who are low-income people are told by the paid organizers working at ACORN Canada that we are a broke organization that owes money to the national board for the national convention held every 2 years. The low-income members of ACORN Canada are told by the paid organizers that ACORN Canada does not take money from the government, politicians, commercial entities, etc. This is all lies. The paid organizers will ask each individual politician at all levels of government to make a monthly donation through the bank to ACORN Canada, and in return they receive an ACORN Canada red T-shirt. We were told by some politicians they were making monthly donations, for example, $50, $100, or higher each month. In return, the paid organizers at election time will print out promises made by political parties, normally the NDP and some city councillors at different election times, and have the leaders at chapter meetings read them out and convince the membership to vote for the same politicians who make monthly donations to ACORN Canada, non-partisan, etc.? Nope. The donations from politicians, we learned, are placed under the donations line in their financial reports, which is always the highest earning amount under earnings. ACORN Canada is an activist organization, and the power of the people is supposed to be strong-voiced, etc., but the organization, in fact, is paid out behind the scenes, and money controls the whole organization, and the paid organizers really have a say in the organization, and they direct the members what to say and how to decide things. The truth is the members have no real say or control of the organization, and the paid organizers want it to be that way behind the scenes, but in public they make it look like the membership has full control of the organization. There are grants that ACORN Canada paid organizers get to do the work that they do, but they tell the membership at ACORN the membership pays for everything. Anything to do with money and how ACORN receives it is really what motivates the topics they fight on. Many but not all of the politicians they endorse make a monthly donation and or a donation of some kind. Example of some below. This is not including all the money that the not for profit side makes.
Below is some but not all of the amounts that ACORN Canada receives in money.
Click the link and read how much Hamilton ACORN received from the City of Hamilton. ACORN is operated by different levels of governments and politicians, not by the ACORN low-income paid members who each pay $15 to $30 a month through bank accounts. All of this does not include monthly donations from home owners and other means.

Below is about Judy Duncan, who is the boss of ACORN Canada and founder.
https://acorninternational.org/acorn-canada-2012-board-meeting-and-annual-general-meeting/
Here is Judy Duncan the top paid organizer in the video below who is the big boss and started ACORN Canada speaking with the red ACORN T-shirt on at a national board meeting for ACORN Canada. Off-video, she becomes very direct, telling the leaders how to vote on different matters and decisions and what issues matter, as well as campaigns and which ones to run that they receive funding for by the government and politicians. The leaders who sit on the national board are treated as puppets by the paid organizers and are told what to do and how to vote by Judy Duncan on the national board for ACORN Canada. All paid organizers do this behind the scenes at all meetings at every level and chapters.
Here is a video below of Wade Rathke, who lives in the United States and started ACORN. He is the boss of the organizers around the world. Wade Rathke is who we are all directed to call him, the chief organizer of ACORN as a whole. He will fly to Canada often to direct the paid organizers on everything, including money exchange behind closed doors. Wade Rathke appears at all ACORN Canada conventions held every 2 years. Below in the video is Judy Duncan, head of ACORN Canada, and you will hear Wade Rathke talking to Judy.
Here is a picture of Wade Rathke, Wade Rathke is the founder and Chief Organizer of ACORN International. https://www.linkedin.com/in/wade-rathke-a722955
Here are a small list of grants ACORN Canada paid organizers get from the government, and most of the membership does not know about all the money received by the government. The members who pay a monthly membership and are leaders are told what to say and are told they are volunteers of the organization, and that includes the members who sit on the national board of ACORN Canada, including the president. Again we are not posting all evidence here yet due to how corrupt the paid organizers are.
Watch this video with the president of ACORN Canada who sits on the national board telling the public and membership ACORN does not receive money from the government. https://x.com/ACORNCanada/status/1918380900389183812

Political Organizer
ACORN Canada
Mar 2022 - May 2022 3 months
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
โข Persuasively provided information to potential voters concerning Ontario NDPโs main platform commitments as well as the 2022 Ontario provincial elections
โข Displayed great time management skills when door knocking and screening about 50 households per day to update voterโs list
โข Showed great interpersonal skills especially when dealing with a hostile public.
On this page you will see that ACORN Canada received $420,000 for period of 2023 to 2026, as well at the bottom of the page ACORN Canada received $720,000 from McConnel and it was sent to the charity side and given back to ACORN Canada. Again the membership money is supposed to cover all this is what paid organizers tell the members https://www.mcconnellfoundation.ca/funding-database/acorn-canada-2023/
This is the Atkinson Foundation. When you go to the website, scroll down and enter the name in the search box of the charity name ACORN INSTITUTE CANADA and search; you will see a list of grants, and click each down arrow to read what the grant is for and each ACORN Canada chapter the money is for. ACORN paid organizers get multiple funding amounts for each campaign. https://atkinsonfoundation.ca/grants-database/
Reminder ACORN members are told our membership money pays the full costs of our office expenses and paid organizers salary; here is another example this is not true. Each city chapter of ACORN Canada operates the same way, and the paid organizers have to raise funding in different ways to apparently support each city chapter, like paid organizers have to sign up 25 paid members each month through bank drafts or they are fired. including knocking on home owners doors in each city chapter asking home owners to support ACORN and make a monthly donation to their bank accounts, government funding, politician donations monthly and more. ACORN Canada chapters are being called partners of municipalities who give them money, this is no longer a member decided organization. We have to follow the rules for the money given to the organization. With Toronto and many other municipalities now calling ACORN a partner and advertising them through councillors and mayor's offices to the constituents. The same thing happened in the United States, and in the early 2000s ACORN was receiving upwards of 100 million dollars a year in funding from the government. Dues-paying members are told by the paid organizers at ACORN that we do not receive money from governments and that ACORN is a membership-driven organization. ACORN is not controlled by the dues-paying membership of ACORN. ACORN Canada is already being controlled by bureaucrats and has lost its mission. The paid organizers at ACORN see dollar signs and will want more as the years go by, yet at the same time the members of ACORN will not have their voices heard because the paid organizers will focus on campaigns that will help them receive money over the real issues that destroy the daily lives of the low-income members who are suffering from so many issues. Paid organizers of ACORN will tell members no at times when they want to speak up on some of the issues that affect them each day and how they live. Members of ACORN, you have more power than you believe. You can get together and vote and demand that ACORN paid organizers follow the real mission they brainwashus all with behind closed doors and in monthly meetings. Members can vote to remove paid organizers from meetings and offices.
Google Search: ACORN Canada does not rely on government funding; instead, it's primarily funded by membership dues and individual donations. ACORN Canada is structured as a community union, where members contribute dues to support the organization's operations and campaigns according to ACORN Canada. This structure ensures that the organization remains independent and controlled by its members, who are low- and moderate-income individuals.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Membership Dues:
Low- and moderate-income earners pay monthly membership dues, which are a primary source of funding.
Individual Donations:
When membership dues don't fully cover costs, individual donors supplement the funding.
No Government Funding:
ACORN Canada explicitly states that it does not receive funding from government sources, big banks, or corporations
Click the website link below and scroll to the bottom of ACORN website page and read https://acorncanada.org/civicrm/contribute/transact/?reset=1&id=32#:~:text=ACORN%20is%20an%20independent%20organization,government%2C%20big%20banks%20or%20corporations.

In addition, 2.25 FTEs in community positions will be funded to third parties to support the delivery of the program at a total annual cost of $135 K ยท 1.00 FTE (Housing Help Centre) Property Rehab Tenant Liaison Coordinator $80,000 ยท 1.00 FTE ACORN Tenant Defence Fund Organizer, and 0.25 FTE of a project manager for a combined cost of up to $55,000
We will post links below showing the example behavior of the paid organizers, as well as other helpful links giving an idea of behavior and so much more of ACORN Canada.
Also, ACORN Canada paid organizers travel to a different country each year around the world using the low-income membership money to places like Africa, the U.S., the Netherlands, and so much more, doing things like canoeing.

This is why paid organizers who work for ACORN Canada have done so much wrong, including prioritizing money over the membership issues and the needs of the members, while the paid organizers do illegal things in the background. nonpartisan? membership-driven? They are doing the same thing they had done in the United States and all over; itโs all about money on every topic. The paid organizers will have the leaders of the chapters ask for grants, donations, etc., having multiple fundings for each campaign while the membership believes it's their $15 for each single member or $30 for couples per month paying for the costs. A developer once offered $100,000 to a chapter of ACORN to have ACORN leave them alone. The paid organizer did try and talk the leaders of the chapter into accepting this bribe, but the members said no. The link below shows ACORN name listed being listed as a partner while the ACORN name is being advertised for the money and name recognition to attract more money from new memberships and funding.
This is John Anderson, who works for ACORN Canada in Toronto. He is one of the paid organizers who treats the members like garbage and talks down to them. This video is an example of how they get angry and talk to people and the members of ACORN Canada. Also if members of ACORN ask for help from the organization the paid organizers will say no behind the scenes without it being voted by the membership at meetings.
ACORN is much bigger and was started by Wade Rathke in New Orleans United States. ACORN got really big in the United States until some bad things started to come out into the public light; some were lies, and other issues were real and true regarding money and the paid organizers being corrupted. In around 2009, ACORN shut down after the embezzlement done by Wade Rathke's brother, Dale Rathke, who embezzled around 1 million dollars from the membership money, and there were rumors it could have been higher. Wade Rathke did try and keep this quiet and behind the scenes of ACORN at first until ACORN leaders found out and made it public. Links below will be posted about the embezzlement.
https://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/09/us/09embezzle.html
Wade Rathke, who promised to pay back the money that was embezzled from ACORN, was bailed out by a wealthy friend who paid back the money owed to ACORN. https://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/17/us/17acorn.html

Read about the ACORN members who found out about the wrongdoing ACORN was doing and how they made it public. What was done to them is being done to others to this day who question anything about ACORN to the paid organizers. We ask that you please watch the videos below and read the websites. This is currently happening to members and ex-members today in 2025. ACORN is all about money only, and the paid organizers will do anything to get the money.
https://whistleblowersblog.org/whistleblower-of-the-week/marcel-reid/
watch this video from a paid organizer in the United States admit to the wrongdoings to politicians with money.
We ask you to ignore the fact that this was done by Fox News, and we encourage you to listen to what the ex-members of ACORN say because it's truth and facts, and it's happening to people right now in the year 2025 in ACORN Canada and other countries. If you care about what's happening to innocent people, we encourage you to read everything and watch all videos. This is happening right now to innocent people in 2025, and people need to start standing up to help those going through hell because the paid organizers will say anything behind closed doors to silence the members and turn everyone against the members who are a threat to ACORN of bringing the truth out in public. So a warning to the public: before you start listening to false stories made about ex-ACORN members, be very careful and listen to both sides, or don't take any sides and distance yourself from the issues and stay neutral and treat everyone right. Do not fall into being a part of silencing someone on behalf of ACORN. If you see it happening, say something and call it out; this high school bullying behaviour is toxic and will only destroy activism as a whole, also you are supposed to be adults setting a better example for the next generation. Do not remain silent and be a part of this corruption of ACORN and the control that these paid organizers have because this will continue happening to other people.. We are going through the same thing in Canada with lies made up about us to harm our name and voice. We have received a death threat and have been completely silenced by the paid organizers because they do not want our voices to be heard. Even the current members have been brainwashed to believe the lies. A well-known activist from the community told us that nobody wants to work with us because of the rumors of being toxic, misogynistic, and more in the public, which are all untrue. The time is now to stand up against all of this, because the paid organizers from ACORN are all about the money and will do anything to silence and destroy others. The paid organizers from ACORN even talk negatively about other organizations, politicians, unions, etc., behind the scenes. They even silence you to the point that many politicians even ignore you on all issues we have in the communities.
